Stephen E. Covell
Mr. Covell is a Series 65 licensed investment advisor. He is also an attorney who has practiced law for over 30 years and is a partner in the law firm of Covell & Covell which has offices in Baton Rouge and in Covington. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and probate litigation. Mr. Covell has drafted more than 4,000 wills and trusts in his practice.
He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Louisiana State University Law Center in 1975. He is admitted to practice in Louisiana and in the U.S. District courts of Louisiana. He is a frequent speaker in the estate planning field and teaches estate planning seminars sponsored by the National Business Institute and the Baton Rouge Bar Association for lawyers’ continuing legal education requirements.
Mr. Covell is a member of the Louisiana and Baton Rouge Bar Associations. He is also chairman of the Estate Planning Committee of the Elder Law Task Force which is a joint effort of the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and the Louisiana State Bar Association. Mr. Covell is managing partner of Covell Financial, LLC, and is a registered investment advisor representative.
Mr. Covell is co-author of the popular book the Louisiana Legal Advisor which is sold in bookstores and can be found in all parish libraries. The book is now in it’s Fourth Edition.
Lauren K. Covell
Lauren Killebrew Covell is a Baton Rouge native having received her Juris Doctor degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1976. Mrs. Covell has practiced law with the firm of Covell & Covell since 1979. Her primary areas of practice are Qualified Domestic Relations Orders and estate planning. She was the primary author and lobbyist on behalf of the Family Law Section for R.S. 9:2801B, regarding the amendment of judgments to enable them to receive “qualified” status from the plan administrators as QDRO’s.
She is co-author of The Louisiana Legal Advisor, a laymen’s guide to Louisiana civil law, now in its fourth edition. The Advisor is available in most Louisiana bookstores, in all parish and state libraries, in the United States Supreme Court Library, and the Library of Congress.
Mrs. Covell is a member of the Louisiana State and the Baton Rouge Bar Associations. With the BRBA, she is a member of the Family Law Section, the Law Day Committee and the Pro Bono Project of the Baton Rouge Bar Foundation of which she is also a committee member and has been for nearly twenty years. Mrs. Covell has been recognized by the BRBA for her legal services on behalf of the indigent, having received awards for the provision of over 300 hours of legal services to the Pro Bono Project and has been honored with the 2005 David A. Hamilton Pro Bono Award by the BRBA. She is the recipient of the LSBA 2006 Pro Bono Award.
